I think it was a big success. The speakers were varied and engaging, the food was yummy, and we tried to make it as sustainable as possible. We've had lots of positive feedback so far. The response has been SO good in fact, that we're hoping to organize it again for next year! We're hoping to transform our website, www.therealdirt.ca, into more of a forum for student food activism so I'd encourage you all to check it out in the coming weeks for these changes. If you're interested in being more involved in food activism at your school, then please email me and I'll make sure you're informed about whatever activism meetings we hold in the coming months. (emily.vanhalem@gmail.com). I also hope to post some pics on the website in the next few days so stay tuned for that. Did anyone here make it to the conference? I know Tammara did. I'd love to receive feedback from you if you were there. For those who didn't make it, we'll be uploading the audio and video files of some of the sessions for you to download. That should be up this week too!- Emily

Great to hear from you!

It's nice to get caught up on the many things you're up to- Emily, the conference sounds amazing, Tammara- the harvest dance project sounds really innovative, please keep us updated.

I'm fairly new to this technology, but am interested in how we can use it to keep us connected and to support our respective livelihood projects. An idea I have is setting up a 'commons' page where people can post resources or supports they need or have to offer (eg. Emily, do you need volunteers for the conference? you could post a request. Or Meredith, do you have any cool food curriculum you could share?) there just might the 'right' person out there to help us all out in our food systems work. I am also currently working on a project involving the art of dance to raise awareness about Food issues, it's called the Global harvest dance project. A project to re-connect with the land, food, and the farmers who grow the food. My dream one day is to have it coincide with Harvest fairs and have a big celebration of good food.

I'm working on a website sponsored by Taking It Global feel free to check it out http://projects.takingitglobal.org/yci-foodsecurity In addition, I am also arranging meetings with the administrators at my university to get them on board with LFP.. I have a meeting with one soon.every Tuesday, my group and I still have our soup kitchen so that's been going great although school is getting hectic.
